Governor Phil Bredesen has issued a proclamation designating this week as Graduate Education Week in Tennessee, according to Dr. Deborah E. Arfken, Dean of the Graduate School at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and past president of the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools (CSGS).
The governor’s proclamation states that graduate education attracts more than 37, 000 students nationally and internationally to Tennessee universities, and awards more than 11,000 graduate degrees from The University of Tennessee System, the Tennessee Board of Regents, and private institutions annually, and contributes to the economic growth and stability of the state via tuition and fees generating more than $200 million dollars.
The UTC Graduate School offers a substantial variety of accredited liberal arts and professional programs: 15 graduate certificates, 18 master’s degrees, one education specialist, and three new doctoral degree programs. For the convenience of adult students, courses are available on campus (evenings and weekends), online, or in a combination of offerings.
