UTC will be open on Friday, January 19, 2024, with a normal operating schedule.
Students who are unable to return to campus safely due to their local conditions should inform the faculty members teaching their classes and seek reasonable accommodations. Students will be expected to complete all work within the limits set by the faculty member.
Faculty members who are unable to return to campus safely due to their local conditions should work with their Department Head/School Director as described by the UTC Faculty Handbook.
Staff members who are unable to return to campus safely due to their local conditions should contact their supervisor.

The following message was sent to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus community Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 16):
The safety of students, faculty, and staff is our top priority when making inclement weather decisions.
Road conditions continue to be hazardous in outlying areas and in higher elevations. Temperatures are expected to continue dropping throughout the day and overnight. Temperatures will be near or below zero across much of the region Tuesday night and through Wednesday morning. Hazardous travel conditions will continue with black ice becoming increasingly common as snowmelt and wet roads freeze again. UTC will be closed as follows.
Campus Operations – Wednesday, January 17, 2024
- All classes are CANCELLED.
- UTC Library will be CLOSED.
- University administrative offices will be CLOSED.
- Events scheduled to take place on campus are CANCELLED. Organizers will communicate if these events are to be rescheduled and, if so, on what dates and times.
- University Center (UC) will be OPEN 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- UC Game Room will be OPEN 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- UTC Bookstore will be OPEN 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) will be OPEN 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- CARTA/MOCS Express: NORMAL operations, as conditions permit.

Students are encouraged to be mindful of their personal safety outdoors, particularly during inclement weather with temperatures near or below zero. Please avoid driving unless absolutely necessary.

The safety of students, faculty, and staff is our top priority when making inclement weather decisions.
Hazardous winter weather conditions are expected to impact Chattanooga and the surrounding area this week. Due to the holiday weekend, thousands of students are scheduled to travel back to campus in the coming days. In consideration of student travel plans, we are announcing inclement weather decisions now for the next two days.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area with high confidence of significant snow accumulation and travel impacts. Due to forecasted snow accumulations between 2 inches and 6 inches and due to sustained temperatures well below freezing, UTC will be closed as follows.
Monday, January 15, 2024 – Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday (MLK Day)
- There are no scheduled classes.
- The University Center will be CLOSED.
- The UTC Library will be CLOSED.
- University administrative offices will be CLOSED.
- University-organized MLK Day of Service activities CANCELLED. Event organizers will attempt to reschedule the events in the future, if possible.
Tuesday, January 16, 2024
- All classes are CANCELLED.
