Tyler S. Forrest, UTC Student Government Association (SGA) Vice President, and Dr. Verbie L. Prevost, head of the UTC English Department were sworn-in as members of the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees, the governing body of the UT system. Former Chief Justice and UTC Distinguished Alumnus William M. “Mickey” Barker swore in Forrest and Prevost before the SGA Senate while UT President John Petersen held the Bible.
Forrest, of Athens, Tennessee, will serve a one-year term. He has served as Chairman of the Projects Committee and Senator for the College of Business in SGA and as an inaugural member of the University of Tennessee Student Council. He is Vice-Chairman of the Student Conduct Board, President of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma, a Chancellor’s Ambassador, and a member of several other University committees. Forrest has an interest in business and politics, and hopes to attend law school upon graduation. He plans to graduate in May 2010.
Prevost was also appointed for a one-year term. She specializes in American literature, literature of the American South, and women authors. She pursues research interests in these areas, and particularly on the work of women novelists of the American South. Prevost is active in directing several ongoing programs, including the Arts and Education Council’s Young Southern Writers Contest.
