The Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Chattanooga Area Collegiate Chapter will be presenting a fundraising classical music concert on Saturday, November 22 at 7 p.m. in Cadek Recital Hall on the UTC Campus.
The Chattanooga Area Collegiate Chapter is a multi-campus music student organization. The student members are from UTC, Bryan College, and Covenant College. The Chapter is co-advised by Dr. Sigrid Luther from Bryan College and Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai from UTC. It was honored as the 2005 National Chapter of the Year by the MTNA National Headquarters.
The Collegiate Chapter’s mission is to provide network opportunities to student members, train them in leadership positions, prepare them for the profession of music education, and encourage them to serve the community. The events hosted by the Chapter have included music career workshops, wellness and injury prevention seminars, performances at nursing homes and health care facilities, and master classes for college and high school music students. The Chapter also held three fundraising events to help needy musicians and it worked in conjunction with MusicLink to purchase instruments for underprivileged students.
Proceeds from this concert will support student members who plan to attend the MTNA National Conference in Atlanta from March 27 to 29.
“The best way to express our thanks for your donation is to share our talent with you in an evening of classical music. The performers will be students from Bryan College and UTC and the program will include deeply romantic Rachmaninoff Concerto, the exhilarating Ginastera Sonata, and the stunning Beethoven Variations, among others,” said Dr. Tsai.
For those who cannot attend but still want to help the Chapter, please write a check payable to CMTA (Chattanooga Music Teachers Association) with an updated address on the check. CMTA will send a tax receipt. Contributions may be mailed to Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai, UTC Music Department #1451, 615 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, 37403.
The concert is open to the public.
“Even if you cannot make a contribution at this time, we still welcome you to be part of the evening,” Dr. Tsai said.
