“A Starry Clarinight: Music for Clarinets” will be presented Monday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, UTC Fine Arts Center (corner of Vine and Palmetto Streets). The concert is free and open to the general public.
The program will feature repertoire prepared by the clarinet students of Nikolasa Tejero during the fall semester. These works range from the great standards of the clarinet literature (Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn, Schumann), to more modern works, and also includes some less known, but wonderful salon-style pieces for clarinet and piano. The concert will conclude with a performance by the UTC Clarinet Ensemble.
Tejero was born in Mérida, México, and moved to the United States with her family in 1983. She received her B.M. in Clarinet performance at UTC and now holds a Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from Baylor University, in Texas. An active performer, Tejero is a frequent recitalist and soloist appearing with the Cadek Chamber Orchestra, the Southern Adventist University Orchestra, the UTC Orchestra and the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra. She is a founding member and president of the Chattanooga Clarinet Society. Tejero is the coordinator of clarinet studies, teaches Music Theory and directs the UTC Clarinet Ensemble.
