The Athletics Department kicked off the 2007-08 athletics seasons with a special unveiling ceremony August 1, where UTC officials introduced the Mocs’ new football uniforms and new helmets. The department also officially launched its new athletics website and all its features.
“We are extremely excited about Wednesday’s announcements,” UTC Director of Athletics Rick Hart said. “We have been working diligently on some new ideas and initiatives which we feel are going to enhance our products and our programs tremendously. We hope to create a buzz which, in turn, will attract more people toward Mocs Athletics and make those who are already followers proud to be part of the program.”
Head Football Coach Rodney Allison said there is a lot of excitement about the new uniforms for the Mocs, but “none were more excited than our players.”
Chancellor Roger Brown thanked the Mocs fans who came to the UC, saying there were some in the room who have held Mocs season tickets for the last 50 years. “We are grateful for your loyal, dedicated support,” Brown said. Student Government Association President Bill Staley is looking forward to a winning semester. “Let’s continue to support the Mocs!” he said.
The ceremony was held at the UTC Bookstore in the University Center.
Rick Hart talked about the UTC Athletics brand, which he said was a look steeped in tradition, yet evolving. The UTC marks were last revamped in 1997. “They did not accurately define who we are today,” Hart said. No marks were eliminated, but Hart said the look was refined. With a renewed commitment to the original blue and gold colors, Hart explained that there is no longer fragmentation in the fonts and the “C” logo. He thanked University Graphics Manager April Cox for designing the logos and marks and Andrew Horton, Athletics, for assuming the role of creative director.
UTC has partnered with XOS Technologies to host its official athletics website. The site’s URL address, www.GoMocs.com, will remain the same, but the new state-of-the-art site will offer a variety of interactive features including live and archived audio and video streams, real-time game statistics, on-line store, auctions and ticket sales and many other features.
