UC Foundation Professor of Anthropology, Dr. H. Lyn Miles, was elected as Chair of the University of Tennessee Faculty Council in May, 2007, in Nashville. The Council, established in 2007, has two representatives from each campus of the University of Tennessee. The Chair will report directly to UT President John Peterson.
The UT Faculty Council meets several times a year and confers with, advises, and communicates with UT President John Petersen on system-wide matters of interest to the faculties of UTC, University of Tennessee at Martin, University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and the President. The Council will also work with the President to seek input from faculty members with appropriate expertise to participate in UT System task forces.
The University Faculty Council will strive to provide a mechanism to ensure that faculty concerns are raised during planning stages of UT System policies that impact faculty, and for the faculty appointees to the UT Board of Trustees to become aware of and received guidance on faculty issues. The Council will also be an excellent means by which the campuses of the University of Tennessee exchange information and ideas.
Miles will serve for one year, with a renewable term.
Miles says the Council will focus on several issues this year, including faculty raises, faculty salary equity, and system communication issues, such as the recent retirement funds discussion.
All faculty with issues of interest are urged to contact their faculty President and campus Council representative.
Miles’ email address is Lyn-Miles@utc.edu and her office phone is 425-4440.
