Dr. Anovia Slaughter has been appointed University ombuds for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, effective June 28. Slaughter’s background includes serving as a State of Tennessee Rule 31 independent family/domestic and civil law mediator; overseeing all operations of victim support services for Partnership for Families, Children and Adults; and spending 12 years as a marriage and relationship educator for First Things First.
Juneteenth celebration brings together UTC community
The UTC Juneteenth Celebration, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Black Faculty and Staff Association, brought together faculty, staff and students from across campus—plus alumni, family members and summer camp visitors—to learn about the culture, heritage and origins of Juneteenth.
Promoting success: Middle School to Mocs Scholars program paves college path for Hamilton County students
For the second straight year, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga staff and faculty hit the road to spread the UTC name at numerous Hamilton County Schools eighth-grade promotion ceremonies. Over several days in May, two dozen UTC representatives participated in Middle School to Mocs Scholars events, presenting to more than 3,000 Hamilton County School students.

Sean O’Brien, a decorated police officer with 24 years of law enforcement experience, was sworn in as UTC associate vice chancellor for public safety and chief of police on Friday, May 10.
UTC’s School of Nursing announces significant impact grant for mental health from Unum Group
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced that Unum Group, a leading international provider of workplace benefits and services, has made a $500,000 grant and become the School of Nursing’s Premier Mental Health Partner at the new Dorothy and Jim Kennedy Health Sciences Building, slated to begin construction later this year.

Sean O’Brien named UTC associate vice chancellor for public safety and police chief
Sean O’Brien, a decorated police officer with 24 years of law enforcement experience, has been selected as the new University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Safety and UTC Police Chief. O’Brien, who has worked for the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) since 2007, will join UTC effective May 1, 2024.
