Veterans Entrepreneurship Program changes lives
After Beau Sidell spent four years in the U.S. Air Force, she became a dental hygienist, and followed up with two years of pre-med classes. She became interested in alternative medicine, and it has inspired her to begin her own business—a non-profit organization called Wild Mane Ranch, where veterans will help veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to learn eco-friendly, sustainable skills and alternative therapies.

FREE Sports Concussion Seminar
The Chattanooga Concussion Prevention Initiative (CCPI) and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the Vanderbilt Sports Concussion Center (VSCC) will host a FREE seminar on sports concussion safety on Tuesday, August 13, 6:30-8 p.m. at the University Center Auditorium at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Coaches, school administrators, and parents will learn how to protect child-athletes from concussions.
Camp GEAR UP, a path to academic success
A strong mind and body can lead to success in education. It’s a new mantra for seventh and eighth graders enrolled in the UTC Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP). They’ve spent the last two weeks in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, where GEAR UP and the Tennessee National Guard partnered to provide a two-week boarding camp.
Brock Scholars highlighted in new Honors College
As UTC’s student body continues to grow, more opportunities for honors-level study will be available with the establishment of an Honors College. To avoid confusion, the University Honors Program has reverted to its former name, the Brock Scholars Program.
Washington D.C. internship yields big returns
Robert Fisher had sixty minutes warning he would meet President Barack Obama.
Fisher is a UTC Brock Scholar and the incoming Student Government Association President. He spent the summer in Washington, D.C., as an intern for the Center for American Progress, following his acceptance into The Institute for Responsible Citizenship’s prestigious summer leadership program. Fisher and his student colleagues met with lawmakers and asked for a resolution to the student loan interest rate problem.
Building a better campus
Just as Chattanooga invested in its riverfront to attract business, residents, and tourists from around the world, improvements at its metropolitan university have created a showcase campus.
Engineering Students build Music Center
Thanks to a group of UTC engineering students, a class at Hixson Elementary has a great new piece of playground and therapy equipment. An outdoor music center, comprised of a series of tubes and large metal “drums” provides students in the Comprehensive Development Class (CDC) a great option for musical therapy and education sessions.
