UTC’s Eta Kappa Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha didn’t appear overnight. It took more than a year of meetings, fundraising and paperwork for the eight founding members to officially bring the sorority to campus.

Honors College students explore Chattanooga during City as Text
On Aug. 14, approximately 140 incoming UTC Honors College students in the Brock Scholars and Innovations in Honors programs were divided into groups of four to five and tasked with exploring local historic neighborhoods. The students were encouraged to walk through a neighborhood or area to gain a better understanding of their community.
Highly decorated UTC alum named Pickering Fellow
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga alum Emma Sprayberry has been selected for the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship—a prestigious U.S. Department of State program that prepares individuals for careers in the U.S. Foreign Service. The May 2024 graduate is the first UTC student or alum to earn a Pickering Fellowship.

UTC Innovation Lab students hit the road with ideas to improve Chattanooga’s transit
Students in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Innovations in Honors program are changing the city’s transportation game. As part of Dr. Jordan King’s Innovation Lab, housed in the UTC Honors College, students have spent the 2024-25 academic year coming up with ideas and working with the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) to address issues in Chattanooga’s public transit system.
Lights, camera, action: UTC introduces new film and TV minor
The Department of Theatre is introducing a new multi-disciplinary film and TV studies minor, allowing allow students to explore all aspects of film and television from in front of and behind the camera. Working with the communication, English, and Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures departments, the new minor—coming in the 2025-26 academic year—will give students a flexible path that suits their interests in film and TV.
Cleveland State to UTC: How Pollianna Moshenskiy found her perfect fit
Although Pollianna Moshenskiy is technically in her first semester as a freshman at UTC, she is already ahead of many of her peers. Thanks to Tennessee Valley Early College at Cleveland State Community College—a program that allows students to earn an associate degree while completing high school—Moshenskiy graduated from Cleveland High School last spring with both a diploma and a degree in hand.

Throughout their teaching journeys, Edwin and Krysta Murillo have lived by a Mark Twain quote: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
