For 30 years, the Westbrook Scholarship Program has helped first-year chemistry and physics students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga complete their degrees. The scholarship provides $14,000 over four years to eligible incoming freshmen in the UTC Department of Chemistry and Physics.

“My story is about American generosity and opportunity,” said UTC graduate Cap Nguyen, an honors student and an active Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers member while at UTC. “I believe that UTC took a chance on me and gave me a great opportunity. It provided me the skill set that changed my life outlook drastically.”

This year, 199 members of the UTC family will be honored for reaching significant service milestones at the UTC Service Awards Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 12—one of the highlights of Founder’s Week. Operation Move In brought the newest flock of Mocs to UTC. All this week at the residential housing units on campus, cars, pickups, SUVs and minivans pull in, often stuffed to the brim and unloaded by students, parents, siblings and other relatives.
UTC to confer first Essentials of Leadership Certificate
This month, Wanda Lockhart will be the first awardee of the Essentials of Leadership Certificate—the first undergraduate certificate program offered by UTC. Lockhart is the director of clinical reporting for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.
UTC graduate and ArtsBuild opportunity fellow inspires children and families through art
During his time in the U.S. Navy, recent UTC graduate Heber Gutierrez saw the world, but his experience as an opportunity fellow for an art workshop taught him the most about life. With a passion for art, glassblowing and especially pottery, he decided to pursue a degree in studio art.
Advice to incoming freshmen from a graduating student: “Keep exploring, try new things and become familiar with change”
