A railroad crossing on Martin Luther King Boulevard will get a facelift thanks to students from Brown Academy and UTC. Student mentors from the UTC P.A.W.S. (Postsecondary Awareness With Success) program recently assisted fourth and fifth grade students from Brown Academy in creating banners to hang on the railroad crossing.
Students assist in building houses for Habitat for Humanity
A group of undergraduate and graduate students put their skills to good use this past summer while volunteering for Habitat for Humanity for Greater of Chattanooga. The students assisted in building several homes as part of Service Learning Lab course in the University’s construction management program.
UTC to celebrate faculty, student research
On April 7th, UTC will hold its third annual Research Day Celebration from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the UTC University Center. Faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students will be presenting research from a variety of topics including childhood autism, college athletics, adolescent behavior, and nursing education. This event is free and open to everyone.
Students, alumni enjoy success at Career Day
On Wednesday, nearly 700 students and recent alumni came to the University Center for the Career Day. The event was presented by The Placement and Student Employment Center and the Cooperative Education Office.
Professor to serve on city advisory board
Dr. Roger Thompson, UTC Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, has been appointed to a three-year term to the Office of Multicultural Affairs Advisory Board by Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield.
UTC faculty, alumni, students construct public art installation
Nestled near the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge and Hunter Museum for American Art is a structure that looks very similar to a large Chinese lantern. That lantern is actually a public arts installation created by members of the UTC community and a local arts organization to honor Chattanooga’s history.

When Baroness Erlanger Hospital acquired one of the first heart-lung machines designed to keep patients alive during open-heart surgery in 1960, it was not long before it was used to successfully correct a defective heart valve in a male teen born with a congenital heart condition. It was the region’s first open-heart surgery.

USA TODAY Readership program on the UTC campus concluded its pilot program in early December with students reading 10,124 newspapers over 20 days for an average of 506 newspapers read daily.
