The summer semester has officially begun, which means that University of Tennessee at Chattanooga faculty, staff and students are gearing up for the arrival of new students on campus in August. Freshman orientation begins on June 5 and continues until August. The two-day orientation sessions will provide incoming students with information and resources to begin their college journey.
‘Tennessee Valley Across the Table’ debuts on WUTC, shows we’re not as different as we might think
“Tennessee Valley Across the Table,” a series of recorded conversations that debuts June 6 on WUTC-FM 88.1, follows the same format as “One Small Step,” setting up conversations between two people whose ideas—be they political, social, religious or otherwise—suggest the pair have diametrically opposed viewpoints. The only rule for participation was that conversation must remain civil.
UTC’s Emma Roy awarded prestigious Critical Language Scholarship to Taiwan
Rising junior Emma Roy, a Brock Scholar in the Honors College majoring in secondary education: political science, has been selected for the U.S. Department of State’s 2023 Critical Language Scholarship Chinese Program, an immersive summer opportunity for college and university students to learn languages essential to America’s engagement with the world.

The smell of hickory smoke and slow-cooked hog hung over campus last weekend as students, faculty and family gathered for the first University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Porkorama. A pork barbecue extravaganza, the event was organized by the UTC History Department and the Honors College as a celebration of the history of Appalachian culture and cuisine.

The Guerry Center recently welcomed nearly 80 guests to the 2nd annual Honors College Open House Accepted Students Day—including 34 high school students. While some of the students in attendance still had decisions to be made, most had already accepted their offers to become members of the UTC Class of 2027.
Worth the wait: UTC grad Jared Steiman lands Fulbright scholarship
Jared Steiman, a 2020 University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduate who now works as a GEAR UP program coordinator in the UTC Center for Community Career Education, became the second UTC alum in recent weeks to be awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. He will be traveling to Mexico in the fall to assist in teaching English while representing the U.S. as a cultural ambassador.

Heading to nationals, UTC Mock Trial dives into the deep end together
For the fourth time in eight years, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mock Trial team has advanced to the national championship tournament. The tournament, which takes place April 14-16 in Memphis at host site Rhodes College, features 48 mock trial teams from across the country.
Young alum Gus Gaston selected for youth exchange fellowship to Germany
