UTC junior Olivia Reeves, a leading 2024 Olympic weightlifting qualifier, ranks second in the world in her weight class and broke seven world records in her last competition in Qatar in December. In her spare time, she wants to help put the UTC Weightlifting Club on the map.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Monday, Jan. 15. That didn’t stop intrepid University photographer Angela Foster, the video team of Mike Andrews and Sam Blevins, and a slew of UTC students from visiting snow-covered Chamberlain Field.
Go Mocs: Liz Hathaway and Theresa Blackman named to SoCon Faculty and Staff team
Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga family—UC Foundation Associate Professor Liz Hathaway and Theresa Blackman, assistant director of pre-health student services and an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences—have been selected to the 2023-2024 All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.
New FAFSA now available 24/7
Starting in February, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will hold FAFSA Fridays—a series of in-person and online workshops to assist current and prospective students and their families with filling out the form. UTC will release exact times and locations soon.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will celebrate its 11th UTC MLK Day by bringing a pair of co-headliners to Chattanooga. Dr. Bernice A. King and Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz will be the keynote speakers for the UTC MLK Day 2024 celebration taking place at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium Walker Theatre.
Calculating the future with a double major in math and computer science
Why major in math? For Dahlen Elstran, a senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, it’s pure passion. “I decided to major in math in 7th grade,” she said. “I realized that it was the only homework I enjoyed. So that was a sign.”

Often referred to as “the fun week” by college students, the first week of school is usually the time to catch up with friends after winter break while easing into classes. Home sweet home: Students return to UTC for the spring semester
The opening of UTC residence halls on Friday, Jan. 5, brought the first group of students back to campus for the start of the spring 2024 semester.
Two solo acts: Music, Theatre to operate own departments
Thanks to programmatic innovations in both divisions, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Performing Arts is being dissolved and replaced with a pair of autonomous units. When students return to campus for the spring 2024 semester, they will come back to the Department of Theatre and the Department of Music.
Mocs Recovery Program earns national accreditation
The Mocs Recovery Program, a collaboration between the Center for Wellbeing and the Counselor Education Program, has been fully accredited through the Association of Recovery in Higher Education’s Standardized Review for Collegiate Recovery Advancement. As a result of the ARHE review, the Mocs Recovery Program received the designation of a “fully reviewed program” with an overall score of 92%.
