University awarded security grant
UTC was one of 18 institutions selected to receive a U.S. Department of Education Emergency Management for Higher Education (EMHE) grant worth nearly a half million dollars to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for emergency management. Across the United States, 327 institutions applied for the grant.
Nobel Laureate Ostrom to speak November 17
Nobel Laureate Elinor Ostrom, will speak in the Burkett Miller Distinguished Guest Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 17, at 12 noon in the UTC University Center Auditorium. Dr. Ostrom will discuss “The Challenge of Self-Governance in Complex Contemporary Environments.”
Ainsworth named dean of UTC Graduate School
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announces Dr. Jerald Ainsworth has been named Dean of the UTC Graduate School, effective November 1.
IEC 61850 Technical Seminar offered November 2
Dr. Alexander Apostolov, Principle Engineer, OMICRON electronics Corporation USA, will be the keynote speaker for a seminar scheduled for Tuesday, November 2, at the University Center Auditorium. The UTC Department of Electrical Engineering, TVA, IEEE, and Omicron are co-sponsoring the IEC 61850 Seminar.
Campus will Focus on China with series of events
Dr. Bob Swansbrough, UTC Political Science Professor, recently returned from a Fulbright Scholar experience in China. Along with Ruth Grover, UTC Curator, Swansbrough has planned Focus on China, a month-long series of exhibitions, demonstrations and lectures.
Freshman Friday
The UTC community welcomes 150 students and their parents registered for “Freshman Friday” on Friday, October 29. Anthropology class participates in prehistoric demonstration
Dr. Lyn Miles’ anthropology students showed how humans made cave paintings with a spitting technique used by aborigines, developed language, culture and civilization, and modified their environment. This prehistoric demonstration occurred on Vine Street between the UTC University Center and Brock Hall.
