The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga raised $1,734,947.42 from 2,131 donors during its fourth annual Mocs Give Day on Oct. 3. The day’s original fundraising goals to raise $1,000,000 from 1,500 donors were exceeded by nearly 73% and 42%, respectively.
Sales Institute prepares students for a career in ‘a noble profession’
The Sales Institute in the Gary W. Rollins College of Business was officially announced in November 2022, and its first students enrolled in January 2023. Along with classroom courses, the Institute offers six “Business Skills Labs” where students can conduct mock interviews and practice sales calls on potential “buyers.”

Mission about Mars: UTC geologist presents ideas during NASA workshop
Early this semester, UTC Assistant Professor of Geology Ashley Manning-Berg was one of 32 early-career scientists selected to participate in a NASA workshop at Goddard Space Flight Center near Washington, D.C., for what she called “an intense week coming up with ideas of how to look for life on Mars.”

UT Board of Trustees approves naming gift for UTC Health Sciences Building
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga received an $8-million gift from the Kennedy Foundation, Inc. to name the forthcoming home of the UTC School of Nursing the Dorothy and Jim Kennedy Health Sciences Building. This is the largest single gift in UTC School of Nursing history.
Two $11,000 donors get WUTC to fall pledge goal early
Chattanooga’s NPR affiliate radio station WUTC-FM 88.1 achieved its $55,000 fall pledge drive goal early, thanks to 234 contributors—including two individuals who each pledged $11,000 in support.
UTC hosting conversations on “Changing the World with Stories”
A pair of best-selling authors are coming to UTC for a conversation exploring how storytelling can broaden perspectives. National Book Award winner Colum McCann, author of the New York Times bestseller “Let the Great World Spin,” and Ishmael Beah, a Quill Award-nominated author and human rights activist, will participate in a panel discussion called “Changing the World with Stories” from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the University Center Auditorium.

Erica Tomas, who graduated from UTC in 2022 with a degree in interior architecture, now works for Oh Planning + Design, Architecture in Portland, Oregon. In her job, she deals with interior design and architecture elements, which are much more connected than many people think.
