UTC has built its nursing programs to prepare practice-ready graduates across the workforce continuum. From undergraduates pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to graduate students focusing in the areas of adult gerontology acute care, psychiatric mental health and family nurse practitioners, nursing administration and highly specialized nurse anesthetists, UTC’s mission is to educate and graduate nurses who are ready to step into the workforce and fill critical gaps in care.
Taking nursing where it’s needed: AHEAD-RN program prepares students for rural impact
Through the AHEAD-RN traineeship led by Dr. Brooke Epperson, associate director of the School of Nursing and the undergraduate program coordinator, eight nursing students are diving into the realities of rural health care. They’re learning that providing quality care in these communities isn’t just about medical skills—it’s about adaptability, cultural sensitivity and resourcefulness in environments where health care access can be severely limited.
If at first you succeed: UTC BSN program lands federal grant
A $1.4-million grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration has been awarded to the UTC School of Nursing to prepare undergraduate students to meet the needs of rural and medically underserved populations. Dr. Brooke Epperson, assistant professor and undergraduate coordinator in the School of Nursing, is the principal investigator—landing a three-year grant through the HRSA NEPQR-SET program.
