Every summer, several undergraduate students at the UTC leave their comfort zones and embark on learning experiences at other universities. Tauheedah Brady, a sophomore chemical engineering major and Brock Scholar in the UTC Honors College, is one of this summer’s REU participants, taking part in the 2025 Ole Miss Chemistry REU program at the University of Mississippi.

Community outreach: UTC faculty volunteering as research mentors for CGLA students’ biology projects
Ten UTC Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science women faculty members have volunteered as research mentors for 43 CGLA students working on biology-based projects.
University partners with community for science programs
A degu, a small mammal found only in Chile, is bringing together the Chattanooga community. In partnership with the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy (CGLA), the Chattanooga Zoo, and local TV station WTCI, the University is creating a collaborative educational outreach program to inform students and the community about this little known animal.
