Reporter and columnist Thomas Friedman to speak Nov. 13

The 2012-13 Hunter Lecture Series continues with Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and columnist for The New York Times Thomas Friedman’s presentation “America: Ready for a Comeback?” on Tuesday, November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Tivoli Theater. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Hunter Lecture series opener focuses on education

Diane Ravitch, research professor of education at New York University and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, will discuss her most recent book, The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education, as she kicks off the George T. Hunter Lecture Series on Tuesday, September 18.

2012-13 George T. Hunter Lecture Series announced

The 2012-13 George T. Hunter Lecture Series begins its fifth year with a presentation by Diane Ravitch, Education historian and Former Assistant Secretary of Education, on Tuesday, September 18, 7 p.m. Ravitch will speak in the UTC Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall.

Update: Michael Pollan advises a simple way of eating

To Michael Pollan, best-selling author, journalist, and activist, the rules for eating healthy can be boiled down to seven words. “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” This simple mantra was a theme of Pollan’s lecture he gave as part of the George T. Hunter Lecture Series.

Michael Pollan to close this season’s Hunter Lecture Series

Michael Pollan, author and activist, will give the last lecture of the 2011-2012 George T. Hunter Lecture Series on Thursday, April 19th at 7 p.m at the Tivoli Theatre. This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pollan’s lecture is entitled: In Defense of Food: An Omnivore’s Solution.
