A pair of best-selling authors are coming to UTC for a conversation exploring how storytelling can broaden perspectives. National Book Award winner Colum McCann, author of the New York Times bestseller “Let the Great World Spin,” and Ishmael Beah, a Quill Award-nominated author and human rights activist, will participate in a panel discussion called “Changing the World with Stories” from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the University Center Auditorium.
Five writers whose passion for creative writing blossomed during their undergraduate days at UTC will be featured at an upcoming Meacham Writers’ Workshop event. On Saturday, Oct. 21, a UTC Alumni Reading—with conversation and Q&A to follow—will take place.
Dr. Justin Wymer has joined the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as an assistant professor of poetry and creative writing, filling a big hole left by his predecessor, Dr. Richard Jackson.
The 2023 Meacham Writers’ Workshop will take place Sept. 21-23 at various UTC campus locations and off-campus at Stove Works (1250 E. 13th St. in Chattanooga). The program, which is free and open to the public, consists of readings, panels and workshops with the goal of creating an informal setting where well-known writers from around the country, local writers, students, novice writers and their readers can freely and equally exchange ideas, works and readings.
