Four members of the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science—Dr. Murat Barisik, Dr. Sandra Affare and graduate research assistants Ege Can Ek and Atal Bhowmik from the Mechanical Engineering Department’s Nano-Engineering Research Group—visited Orchard Knob Elementary School on Friday, March 8, as part of “Read Across America Week.” The four read “Horton Hears a Who!” and participated in interactive activities and demonstrations to explore size and scale with the K-5 students.
ANGELS summer camp at UTC inspired young women in STEM
The Agriculture and Nutrition for Girls while Encouraging Leadership (ANGELS) summer camp experience, held at UTC this summer, aimed to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) lessons and empower young Black girls. With a focus on different themes each week, the ANGELS program fostered hands-on learning, leadership experience and creativity.

The Upward Bound Math Science Promoting Resolve in Science and Math (PRISM) program offered various academic activities and workshops on social and emotional learning, foreign language, math and science for students from Chattanooga’s Brainerd High School and The Howard School.
