“I have a plethora of experiences and insights to share,” said Jannat Saeed, who—as a triple major receiving bachelor’s degrees in history, humanities: international studies and software systems as well as being a Brock Scholar in the UTC Honors College—will undoubtedly have one of the most extended introductions in crossing the McKenzie Arena stage at commencement this Saturday, May 4.
UTC students win top roles in intercollegiate state legislature
Two students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga won key positions at this year’s Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature. UTC criminal justice major Susanne Cooper was elected Speaker Pro Tem of the House, and graduate student Hunter Fowler, pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree, was appointed a Supreme Court justice.
Advocate for change: UTC student Mateo Jimenez working to close the digital gap
UTC senior Mateo Jimenez has been serving as an American Connection Corps/Regional Connectivity Fellow for Lead For America—a national nonprofit organization that trains college students to serve as full-time local government or nonprofit employees in their home communities. Fellows are placed in positions where they can directly impact challenges such as education, healthcare, economic development, environmental sustainability and social equity.
During Julia Stranahan’s time at UTC, “I learned a lot about being a leader”
Julia Stranahan, who will be graduating on May 6, has had numerous leadership opportunities at UTC, including being a member of the Freshman Senate, an orientation leader and the facilitator of the Feminist Action Movement. She also served in a statewide office as lobbying director of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature.
