On Thursday, Jan. 25, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Music, the Ruth Holmberg Professor of American Music, the Vice Chancellor for Access and Engagement and the Office of Multicultural Affairs will partner with the Bessie Smith Cultural Center to present “O King.” The free concert, open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Bessie Smith Cultural Center performance hall (200 E. M.L. King Blvd.). The venue is accessible.
UTC mourns passing of former Chancellor Bill Stacy
Dr. Bill Stacy, chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1997 to 2004, passed away in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Jan. 4 , 2024.
Dr. Artanya Wesley appointed Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
Dr. Artanya Wesley has been appointed the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s next vice chancellor of enrollment management and student affairs. Wesley, who will assume her new duties on Feb. 5, comes to UTC from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she has served as vice chancellor for student affairs since 2019.

UTC graduates first cybersecurity cohort
The initial cohort of students in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology in Cybersecurity (BAS-IT CyS) degree program crossed the McKenzie Arena stage during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 16. The accelerated degree program’s first cohort participated in its first class on Jan. 9.
Change of leadership in Office of Research and Graduate School
Dr. Joanne Romagni, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Vice Chancellor for Research and dean of the Graduate School, has decided to leave that position and return to the faculty as a professor in the Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science. This change will be effective Jan. 1, 2024, and Deputy Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mann will serve as UTC Vice Chancellor for Research for a period of two years starting Jan. 1.
UTC connected to EPB Quantum Network℠ powered by Qubitekk
UTC has become the first academic institution to be connected to EPB Quantum Network℠ powered by Qubitekk. In late 2022, EPB and Qubitekk jointly launched the nation’s first industry-led, commercially available quantum network for running equipment and applications in an established fiber optic environment. UTC is connected to the network via a node within a quantum technology laboratory on campus.
UTC School of Nursing voted tops in nation in Nurse.org competition
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga School of Nursing has been selected the best in the country by student and alumni voters in the inaugural Top Nursing School in the United States – Student Choice Awards contest launched by Nurse.org—an influential national organization.
Chancellor elected to CUMU board of directors
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Steven R. Angle has been elected to the board of directors of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, a consortium of presidents and chancellors of CUMU member institutions.
