Women’s basketball, Chattanooga wrestlers win SoCon tournaments

Congratulations to the UTC women’s basketball team and Chattanooga wrestlers! The Chattanooga women’s basketball team drew a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, its highest in school history, and players learned Monday night they will take on No. 10 Pittsburgh Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.  This will be Chattanooga’s 13th trip to the NCAA and its highest seed in school history. For the first time since Sharon Fanning coached the UTC Women’s Basketball Team in 1984, it has cracked the Associated Press top 25 ranked schools—first at number 25 and now in the 23rd spot.  Read about the team win against ETSU. UTC sophomore guard Chelsey Shumpert was named Southern Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week.  Shumpert averaged 20.5 points per game in two contests in the last week.
