The undergraduate program leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering management from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been named one of the country’s top such programs by an online guide for current and prospective business students.
Great Business Schools rated the UTC engineering management bachelor’s degree the 24th-best in the nation for 2021. In compiling its annual rankings, the portal’s editors researched accredited, reputable colleges and universities across the United States offering a degree or dual degree in engineering management. Programs were then ranked according to cost, reputation and salary potential.
“It is a testament to the hard work of faculty and staff of the Department of Engineering Management and Technology over the years that UTC is recognized as one of the top undergraduate programs for engineering management in the nation. This Top 25 list includes Stanford, MIT and Ivy League schools,” said Daniel Pack, dean of the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science. “Engineering management at UTC is highlighted for how students can transition into their chosen career field immediately after graduation. This highlight speaks volumes to the value and strength of the partnerships the college has built with industry and community leaders.
“By focusing on student success through community engagement, we are delivering the best value for our students, and inclusion in this list exemplifies that fact.”
In its review, Great Business Schools said UTC provided the best engineering management degree program available in the area. “By learning engineering management and advanced technology skills, students are capable of working in highly advanced environments,” the site’s editors said. “Their ability to effectively manage each project gives them an opportunity for advancement that a person with only one degree major may not have.”
Ahad Nasab, Burkett Miller Chair of Excellence and department head of Engineering Management and Technology, said the engineering management program prepares graduates to manage engineering and technical projects as well as engineering professionals.
“Engineering management is a career that brings together the problem-solving abilities of engineers and the organizational, administrative and planning abilities of managers to oversee complex enterprises from conception to completion. Product development, manufacturing planning and execution, and construction management are a few of the career paths for our graduates,” Nasab said. “The national ranking of this program at UTC is due to our highly capable faculty who are selected for their passion for inspiring the next generation of engineering managers.”
