Eighty-one people whose lives touched the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga were remembered at the University’s annual Blue and Gold Memorial service on Monday, Feb. 27, in Patten Chapel.
The memorial service is available to watch via livestream.
All 81 honorees—alumni, faculty, staff and retirees, and students—passed away in 2022, and the achievements and lasting contributions they made as members of the UTC family were recognized by University leaders. Their names were read aloud in a ceremony which symbolized that they were and will always be a Moc.
UTC Chancellor Steven R. Angle and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Jim Hicks provided remarks as part of the ceremony. Jason Leonard of University Ministries of Chattanooga delivered the invocation, and music was performed by pianist Helena Rosa and the UTC Chamber Singers.
Other memorial service participants included:
- UTC Alumni Board President Jay Dale, who recited the names of alumni who passed away in 2022.
- Faculty Senate Past President Tammy Garland, who recited faculty names.
- Director of Employee Relations Julie Brown read staff and retiree names.
- Delali Gadzekpo, president of the UTC Student Government Association, recited student names.
The Blue and Gold Memorial concluded with a candle lighting and a moment of silence.
The annual Blue and Gold Memorial was first created in 2012.
