The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering and Computer Science are teaming up to offer high school juniors and seniors—and their families—an immersive campus experience tailored to students interested in pursuing professional careers in health care, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and computer science.
College Quest, taking place from 12:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 (during Hamilton County Schools’ fall break), offers prospective students a unique opportunity to explore their specific academic and professional interests far beyond the traditional campus tour—including visits to lab spaces.
Admission to College Quest is free and registration is required. To sign up, prospective students should click here and create an account. An optional lunch will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. in the UTC University Center food court.

“We have specifically designed this event to give students a real glimpse into the day-to-day experiences of those pursuing careers in health care, engineering and the sciences,” said Theresa Blackman, assistant director of pre-health student services at UTC. “It’s a highly personalized experience for both students and their families—one that sets UTC apart from other universities. For students who know they plan to go on to graduate and professional schools in pre-health areas, this event provides an in-depth introduction to the services and advantages that UTC provides.”
Students attending College Quest will be able to participate in customized excursions tailored to career tracks of interest, including:
- Pre-Health (Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Optometry, PT/OT): Tour lab spaces and learn about clinical opportunities—as well as attend the Chemistry and Physics undergraduate research symposium.
- Pre-PT and OT: Visit UTC’s PT and OT program and experience hands-on activities with current students.
- Engineering and Computer Science: Explore lab spaces and meet with faculty to discuss the latest innovations in the field.
- Natural Sciences: Meet current undergraduate researchers and faculty in Chemistry and Physics and gain exclusive access to experiences in Math, Biology, Geology and Environmental Science.
“This is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Irene Hillman, director of the College of Engineering and Computer Science’s Center for Student Success. “Students get a taste of multiple academic tracks so they can be better informed as they shape their plans for college. This is an energizing and highly useful experience for anyone who is or is supporting a high school student interested in entering a lucrative STEM field.”
While students take part in their personalized excursions, parents and guardians will have the chance to engage with UTC campus leaders from Financial Aid and Scholarships, Academic Support and Advisement, and UTC Career Connections—gaining valuable insights on how to guide their students’ future success.
“We understand that prospective STEM students and their parents have unique questions about lab facilities, research opportunities and support systems that aren’t always covered in a typical college tour,” said College of Arts and Sciences Dean Pam Riggs-Gelasco. “This event highlights the network of support our STEM students get from the faculty and staff who are highly dedicated to their success.”
College Quest is part of UTC’s ongoing effort to offer prospective students specialized, hands-on experiences that prepare them for success in their chosen fields.
“If you’re dreaming of a future in engineering or computer science, College Quest is your backstage pass to explore the possibilities,” said College of Engineering and Computer Science Interim Dean Ahad Nasab. “High school students thinking about their college options will get an exclusive tour of cutting-edge lab spaces and chat with faculty about the game-changing innovations happening right here at UTC.”
