Long-vacant South Stadium building was bristling with life recently when 20 Chattanooga Police SWAT Team members, veterans and new hires, participated in a training exercise.
Looking for ways to provide “as much training as possible” for the group, Captain David Roddy, Special Operations Division, Chattanooga Police Department, said the group is always looking to spend “more time in different kinds of structures.” That includes schools, hospitals, universities and residential structures.
“We want to thank the University for allowing us to use this building,” Roddy said. “It’s also helpful for us to become familiar with the architecture of this older structure, which is similar to other buildings on campus.”
In 2005 and 2007, the Chattanooga Police SWAT Team earned top honors in the National Swat Team Challenge, beating teams from Chicago and Orlando. Unfortunately, Roddy said the team has not been able to participate in recent years due to scheduling conflicts.
