For the first time in University of Tennessee at Chattanooga history, fireworks lit the sky above campus on Thursday, Sept. 17. More than 350 students watched from the parking deck adjacent to West Campus at a fireworks watch party hosted by the Student Government Association.

2026 Chattanooga Connect demonstrates the future of transportation

Celebrating service: Employees recognized for years of work at UTC

Jina Johnson graduated from UTC in 1986. That same year, she began her career in human resources at UTC. Forty years later, on Wednesday, Sept. 16, she attended UTC’s annual Service Awards Luncheon—a Founder’s Week event that celebrates faculty and staff anniversaries beginning at five years of service. This year’s event honored 183 employees.

UTC sets graduate student record with second-highest overall enrollment

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga welcomed 11,809 students for fall 2026, the second-highest enrollment in the University’s 140-year history and set an all-time high for graduate enrollment. Graduate enrollment reached 1,749 students, a 5% increase over the previous record of 1,664 set last year. The graduate population includes more than 550 professional and research doctoral students, reflecting UTC’s expanding research enterprise and portfolio of advanced academic programs.
