UTC’s Olivia Reeves brings home the Olympic gold
On Friday, Aug. 9, Olivia Reeves—a senior sociology student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, became the first U.S. weightlifter to win gold at the Olympics in 24 years. She also set an Olympic record with a snatch of 117 kg (257.9 pounds).

UTC launches dual-enrollment on-campus courses for area high school students
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has announced a new dual-enrollment initiative designed to provide local high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to earn college credits while completing their high school education. Beginning with the start of the University’s 2024-2025 academic year, UTC is offering two on-campus dual-enrollment courses—English 1010 (Rhetoric and Composition 1) and Math 1130 (College Algebra)—to eligible students who have completed their sophomore year of high school while maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
UTC rocks: First-year geology class shows Chattanooga’s great outdoors
In Dr. Amy Brock-Hon’s first-year geology classes, the city of Chattanooga will serve as the laboratory. The class, named “MOCS Explore Chattanooga,” combines two geology classes and a lab and is a part of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s “A Moc’s First Year” program—which was designed to help first-year students build community.
UTC, Erlanger partner for Certified Medical Assistant training program
A new partnership between the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Erlanger will provide UTC students the opportunity to obtain their Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) license for free and secure employment at Erlanger while also training Erlanger’s non-certified medical assistants.
UTC has historic fundraising year of $60 million raised
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga raised $60,056,026 from 6,762 donors during the fiscal year 2024. This is the single largest fundraising year in UTC’s history. This fundraising total represents a 325% increase from the previous fiscal year in dollars raised to support students, faculty and staff.
Graduate School goals? Use TN HOPE Scholarship
Getting your graduate degree at UTC just got more affordable with the expansion of the state’s lottery-funded scholarship program. Qualified students can now use their remaining Tennessee HOPE Scholarship funds to pursue a master’s degree at UTC immediately after or while completing their undergraduate degrees.
