On Dec. 16, Lorina Upshaw, who officially completed her UTC coursework in August, will hear her name called as a recipient of a Bachelor of Applied Science: Applied Leadership degree (BAS-AL). Her journey toward receiving a bachelor’s degree started 53 years ago.
Combating the heat: UTC students recognized for their work
Last summer, four UTC students worked with Dr. Dawn Ford and the Hamilton County Health Department on a tabletop exercise to come up with ways to respond in the event of extreme heat. On Friday, Nov. 10, UTC hosted a Veterans Day Luncheon for all students, faculty and staff who are veterans or active military.
Power C Tour comes home to UTC campus
The Power C Tour Chattanooga event followed October visits to Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville. The four tour stops attracted 1,033 total students, parents and guests. Of the 446 students who attended, more than 30% (138) were admitted to UTC in a “Moc Minute,” an initiative allowing qualified high school seniors to apply for free to the University at the event.

Dr. John “Trey” Straussberger has been selected as director of the Office of National Scholarships at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Each having served in the military, a trio of friends share a special bond at UTC
Approximately 600 veterans, military-affiliated students, spouses and dependents of veterans are enrolled at UTC this fall, comprising more than 5% of the student population. Among that group are a trio who have become fast friends: Kyra Daley, James Sellers and Joe Rowell.
