Dr. Mina Sartipi has been appointed interim vice chancellor for research, effective January 2026. Sartipi currently serves as the executive director of the UTC Research Institute and as the founding director of the Center for Urban Informatics and Progress (CUIP). She is a Guerry Professor and UC Foundation Professor in UTC’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering and holds a joint faculty appointment with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Vice Chancellor for Research Reinhold Mann has announced his retirement, effective at the end of December. Since joining UTC in 2015, Mann has helped shape a new era for the University’s research enterprise, building faculty capacity, deepening community partnerships, and advancing major strategic initiatives that have elevated UTC’s role in regional innovation and discovery.

UTC Chancellor Lori Bruce appointed to UT‑Battelle Board of Governors
The University of Tennessee System announced that Chancellor Lori Mann Bruce of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been appointed to the Board of Governors of UT‑Battelle, the nonprofit partnership that has managed and operated the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) since 2000. UT‑Battelle is jointly owned by the University of Tennessee and Battelle Memorial Institute.

Chattanooga Connect 2025, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Research Institute (UTCRI), will take place Oct. 6-8 at the Chattanooga Convention Center. UTC and City of Chattanooga formalize strategic research partnership to accelerate innovation and federal grant collaboration
UTC and the City of Chattanooga have entered into a new strategic research partnership formalized through an interlocal agreement approved by the Chattanooga City Council. UTC to host Quantum Technology Workshop June 23-25
The Quantum Technology Workshop, hosted June 23-25 at UTC’s Multi-Disciplinary Research Building (701 E. M.L. King Blvd.), is presented by the Quantum Center at the UTC Research Institute (UTCRI).
