Getting your graduate degree at UTC just got more affordable with the expansion of the state’s lottery-funded scholarship program. Qualified students can now use their remaining Tennessee HOPE Scholarship funds to pursue a master’s degree at UTC immediately after or while completing their undergraduate degrees.
UTC, ChattState sign environmental science MOU
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Community College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Friday, June 21, creating a seamless pathway for ChattState students to transfer into UTC’s Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science program following the successful completion of their associate degree program.

Geology comes to life with creation of UTC rock garden
At the end of the spring term, the UTC Geology Club created The Rockery, located alongside Grote Hall on the path from campus to Mocs Alumni Drive. The garden features four distinct groups of rocks: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary as well as a unique collection showcasing local Chattanooga rocks.
Coming up ROSES: UTC scientists land NASA research award
Associate Professor Azad Hossain, an environmental geoscientist in the UTC Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science, was the principal investigator on award funding of $299,998 from NASA for the project titled “Remote Sensing of Water Quality in the Tennessee River.”
UTC awarded $150K “Humanities Connections” grant to support environmental studies major
Thanks to funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, an environmental studies major at UTC is one step closer to becoming a reality. As part of an overarching announcement of nationwide grants, the NEH awarded a $149,957 “Humanities Connections” grant to UTC for the project titled “Implementing a Humanities-Informed Environmental Studies Major at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.”

UTC students explore England through Jane Austen’s eyes
Students from UTC had the opportunity to immerse themselves fully into the life and world of Jane Austen by traveling abroad to England. The opportunity came thanks to Jayda Coons, assistant professor of English for the UTC Honors College, as part of her spring 2024 course titled Jane Austen’s World. For nine days in March, students visited several of Austen’s most famous whereabouts—including her homes in Chawton, Bath and London.
