UTC Special Collections receives grant to digitize historic Woman’s Christian Temperance Union records
UTC Library’s Special Collections has been awarded a $3,679 Tennessee Historical Records Advisory Board programming regrant through funding made available by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funds will support an essential project to digitize, describe and publish online the records of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) of Chattanooga.

Justin Domon graduated from the UTC accelerated Bachelor of Applied Science: Information Technology in Cybersecurity (BAS-IT CyS) program in August. That’s just 12 months after he enrolled in 2023. Following that, he’ll remain a paid intern with TVA through the end of 2024 or until he takes a full-time position—whichever comes first.
Chattanooga smart city project hailed by prestigious national organization
A project involving the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and multiple public and private sector partners is being highlighted by Local Infrastructure Hub, a prestigious national entity that advocates for federal municipal funding and is affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. Federal funding of $2 million for “Planning and Prototyping” was awarded to the project through the SMART grant program established by the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
UTC’s ‘CHAI’ artificial intelligence launches ‘CH-AI Brews’
Both the campus and Chattanooga community are invited to a launch and listening party for “CH-AI Brews,” the student-led podcast for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Artificial Intelligence Initiative. The initiative is also known as “Chattanooga’s AI,” from which the podcast derives its name. The listening party takes place 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, in the Guerry Center Reading Room on campus.

UTC a leader or collaborator on three of seven projects awarded ‘TNGO’ funds
Of almost $3 million in funding for a combined seven projects announced by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is leading one project and a collaborator on two other projects. The total $2.9 million in grants is being awarded through TNECD’s Transportation Network Growth Opportunity, or TNGO, initiative.

UTC, ORNL to collaborate in quantum information science and engineering
UTC and the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are entering into a memorandum of understanding with the intent to collaborate in efforts to research, develop, deploy and evaluate technology and analytically based solutions to challenges in the area of quantum information science and engineering, including networking, sensing, and computing.
UTC’s Olivia Reeves brings home the Olympic gold
On Friday, Aug. 9, Olivia Reeves—a senior sociology student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, became the first U.S. weightlifter to win gold at the Olympics in 24 years. She also set an Olympic record with a snatch of 117 kg (257.9 pounds).
