UTC STEM professor helps Hamilton County Schools master ‘computational thinking’
Dr. Stephanie Philipp, UTC assistant professor of education and interim director of the STEM Education Program, recently hosted 45 Hamilton County teachers—half of whom are UTC graduates, according to a show of hands. Philipp’s half-day cohort was funded as part of a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

Renowned baritone Jeremy Huw Williams to perform at UTC
Jeremy Huw Williams, a Welsh baritone opera singer who also is known for his work in contemporary classical music, will perform at the Cadek Recital Hall on the UTC campus on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The free concert, open to the public, will take place at 7:30 p.m.—and seating is limited. Free parking is available in the adjacent Lupton Hall parking garage; both the parking garage and Cadek Hall are handicap accessible.

“My story is about American generosity and opportunity,” said UTC graduate Cap Nguyen, an honors student and an active Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers member while at UTC. “I believe that UTC took a chance on me and gave me a great opportunity. UTC Honors College collaborates with Chattanooga on innovative solutions to citywide problems
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Honors College is joining forces with the city of Chattanooga to find new and better ways to solve some of the city’s problems. The UTC Innovations in Honors program and the Chattanooga Department of Innovation Delivery and Performance have agreed to collaborate on developing solutions to citywide challenges involving public housing and health during the 2023-2024 academic year.

UTC to launch online Master of Science in Management degree
A new Master of Science in Management online degree program at UTC begins with the spring 2024 semester. The addition of the program, housed within the Gary W. Rollins College of Business, was made official on Aug. 17 after its confirmation from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
Interdisciplinary research: Undergrads from across the country come to UTC to study Chattanooga’s greenways
This summer, Chattanooga’s greenways became a laboratory for 10 undergraduate students from across the country. Intertwining ecology, biology, geography and public policy, the students used their interdisciplinary research in hopes to improve the Tennessee Riverwalk and South Chickamauga Creek Greenway.
