University High: Latest initiative yielded by strategic emphasis of UTC Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education
When UTC launched University High in fall 2023, the initiative represented more than a novel approach to secondary education resulting from an unprecedented collaboration between UTC and Hamilton County Schools. University High also is the first fruit of a strategic focus on innovative school models—one of five such focus areas—by the UTC Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education established in 2023.

UTC School of Education announces director roles for Dr. Kim Wingate and Dr. Allen Pratt
Dr. Kim Wingate, a longtime member of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga faculty, has been named director of the University’s School of Education. Wingate joined the UTC faculty as an assistant professor in the School of Education in 2007. In a related move, Dr. Allen Pratt has been named the School of Education’s director of strategic partnerships. Pratt, who also serves as executive director of the National Rural Education Association (NREA), has served alongside Wingate as the interim co-director of the School of Education since 2022.
Spring into UTC: Prospective students visit campus for spring Blue and Gold Preview Day
On Saturday, March 23, over 500 prospective students and their families gathered at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for the annual spring Blue and Gold Preview Day, the largest one-day attendance in recent history.
Math Kangaroo competition champions minds and numbers
For the first time since the pre-COVID days, the UTC campus was hopping with Math Kangaroo participants. On Thursday, March 21, over 100 students—from first graders to high school seniors—came to UTC’s Grote Hall to participate in Math Kangaroo, an international mathematics competition.
UTC Theatre Co. presents “Out at Sea” April 9-13
An absurdist tale of survival and democratic decision-making is coming to the Fine Arts Center’s Dorothy Hackett Ward Theatre stage. The UTC Theatre Co. continues its 2023-2024 season with its production of Slawomir Mrozek’s “Out at Sea.” Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on April 9-13, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday, April 13.
UTC’s annual BFA senior thesis exhibition set for March 26-April 20
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Art, in partnership with the Institute of Contemporary Art, will host the 2024 Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Thesis Exhibition from March 26-April 20. The exhibition will take place in the ICA Galleries in the UTC Fine Arts Center.
UTC College of Arts and Sciences presents 3rd annual Spotlight on Faculty Excellence
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts and Sciences and the CAS Access and Inclusive Excellence Committee will host the annual CAS Spotlight on Faculty Excellence at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, in the University Center Auditorium. This year’s honoree is Dr. Jose M. Barbosa, a professor in the Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science.
