UTC STEM professor helps Hamilton County Schools master ‘computational thinking’
Dr. Stephanie Philipp, UTC assistant professor of education and interim director of the STEM Education Program, recently hosted 45 Hamilton County teachers—half of whom are UTC graduates, according to a show of hands. Philipp’s half-day cohort was funded as part of a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
Blue Ribbon Award winners recognized for first six months of 2023
The Chancellor’s Blue Ribbon Award recognizes employees who have gone above and beyond to display excellent job performance, dependability, innovation, and promote a pleasant working environment. The winners from the first half of 2023 were recognized at a luncheon on Aug. 29.
For UTC sophomore, helping improve health in underserved communities is ‘what I want to do 110% deep in my soul’
Gillian Morton, a Brock Scholar in the Honors College majoring in pre-health professional exercise and health science with minors in biology and chemistry, was one of five UTC undergraduates to attend this summer’s HBCU Wellness Project at Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
Renowned baritone Jeremy Huw Williams to perform at UTC
Jeremy Huw Williams, a Welsh baritone opera singer who also is known for his work in contemporary classical music, will perform at the Cadek Recital Hall on the UTC campus on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The free concert, open to the public, will take place at 7:30 p.m.—and seating is limited. Free parking is available in the adjacent Lupton Hall parking garage; both the parking garage and Cadek Hall are handicap accessible.

Dr. Delight Yokley named assistant provost for Student Success
Dr. Delight Yokley has been appointed assistant provost for Student Success at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and will join the University on Sept. 18. Dr. Jerold L. Hale, UTC provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, announced the appointment.
