UTC junior Chamyra Teasley has won the Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award, given by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to 10 individuals in higher education throughout the state who demonstrate a lasting, meaningful impact through service; are valued by peers and community leaders; and embody the legacy of the late Rep. Harold Love Sr.—the namesake of the award.
Turning ideas into reality
The featured speaker for both May 2024 undergraduate ceremonies is UTC alumnus Richard Zhang, a Brock Scholar who graduated summa cum laude in 1992 with bachelor’s degrees in chemistry, economics and accounting.
The Roundhouse will be rockin’: McKenzie Arena to host UTC commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday
Spring commencement at UTC will be celebrated with three separate ceremonies over two days starting Friday, May 3. And for the first time since 2019, commencement will fill McKenzie Arena to the rafters.

UTC, Hamilton County Schools extend Future Ready partnership at Tyner Academy
UTC and Hamilton County Schools signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend the sponsorship of UTC’s Future Ready Institute in Teaching and Learning at Tyner. The ceremony took place in Hunter Hall’s John Ebb Stewart and Mary Ann Stewart Instructional Technology Laboratory on the UTC campus.
National Employee Appreciation Day
On National Employee Appreciation Day, which honors staff members for their accomplishments, hard work and devotion, Chancellor Steve Angle, members of the strategic leadership team and campus leaders sent a message to UTC faculty and staff.
Blue and Gold Memorial to celebrate and remember those we lost in 2023
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will honor 108 individuals whose lives impacted the University during the annual Blue and Gold Memorial service, taking place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, in Patten Chapel.
Blue Ribbon luncheon recognizes UTC employees who have gone above and beyond
On Monday, Jan. 29, Chancellor’s Blue Ribbon Award recipients for the second half of 2023—Gassim Abazid (UTC Police Department), Stephanie Orr (Undergraduate Admissions), Shari Kappel (Administrative Specialist for Management, Gary W. Rollins College of Business), Brandalyn Shropshire (Undergraduate Admissions), Lili Reynolds (Registered Nurse, University Health Services) and Emma Sampson (MPH Program Manager, Health and Human Performance)—were recognized with a luncheon in the University Center.

UTC mourns passing of former Chancellor Bill Stacy
Dr. Bill Stacy, chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1997 to 2004, passed away in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Jan. 4 , 2024.
