The Southern Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference team for the 2009 fall season. A total of 25 Mocs, representing the fall sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball, earned recognition for their academic success.
Women’s Studies spring 2010 lecture series schedule announced
Professors from the Women’s Studies department will present lectures in their areas of expertise as part of the department’s annual lecture series that runs Monday, February 1 through Wednesday, March 31. Topics include women in correctional facilities, the use of sexual epithets, and women missionaries and social reform in 19th century Southern Africa.
Cress Art Gallery offers photographic exhibition
The Cress Gallery of Art offers the public an unusual exhibition free of charge with the support of The Friends of the Gallery and will bring the artists to Chattanooga as part of the UTC John and Diane Marek Visiting Artist Series.

National Endowment for the Humanities renews professor’s funding
Dr. Irven M. Resnick has been awarded $199,756 in renewed funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This funding will support a third summer institute entitled “Representations of the ‘Other’: Jews in Medieval Christendom” for university and college faculty and full-time graduate students. The five-week institute was also conducted in 2003 and 2006.
Medical ethicist from Vanderbilt to deliver Connor Lecture
Dr. Larry Churchill, a distinguished medical ethicist at Vanderbilt University, will deliver the 7tth Annual George Connor Lecture on January 31, 3 p.m. in the Benwood Auditorium, UTC Engineering, Math, and Computer Science Building located at the corner of Vine and Palmetto Streets.
UTC Opera Theater wins two honors at national convention
The UTC Opera Theater won two of three award categories at the National Opera Association convention. The National Opera Association holds an annual convention featuring performances, panels, workshops, and other continuing-education opportunities for opera educators, professionals, and students. Additionally, they hold an annual Opera Production competition with the winners being announced at the national convention.
Dr. Henry McDonald honored with international award
The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) (UK) presented its 2009 Gold Medal Award to Dr. Henry McDonald, UTC Distinguished Professor and Chair of Excellence in Engineering. The award was presented by RAeS President Dr. M.F. Steeden at the 98th Wilber & Orville Wright Lecture on December 10, 2009, in London, England.
Freshman Friday
The UTC campus welcomes perspective students and their parents for Freshman Friday on Friday, January 22. Students who have registered for this event will attend a class with a UTC student while their parents enjoy a campus tour and information sessions.

Paul Turner, Conflict Prevention Officer, Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization U.S. Department of State, will speak at UTC as part of Perspectives 2010: The Raymond B.
