With more than 370 stories published in the UTC Newsroom during the 2024 calendar year, it’s easy to say that a lot of good things happened for UTC students, faculty and staff this year. Picking out the top highlights—not so easy. Here are some of our favorites.

As UTC Chancellor Steve Angle transitions from his leadership role to join the faculty on Jan. 1, 2025, his 11 ½ years at the helm marked a period of significant growth and innovation—elevating the University’s reputation and laying the foundation for its future success.
‘UTC is people’: Dr. Steve Angle reflects on 11.5 years as chancellor and looks ahead
As he transitioned from his leadership role to joining the faculty, Chancellor Angle thanked the people who are UTC. “This is not a goodbye. It’s a hello to my next chapter. And the best part is that I get to do it right here at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.”
UTC’s Dorothy and Jim Kennedy Health Sciences Building breaks ground
The future home of UTC’s School of Nursing, the Dorothy and Jim Kennedy Health Sciences Building, broke ground on Monday, Nov. 4. Located at the corner of Palmetto and East 3rd streets, this new building will be approximately 90,000 square feet with state-of-the-art classrooms and a cutting-edge simulation lab. The new facility will also allow for a 152% enrollment increase in the School of Nursing, which currently accepts approximately 50% of applicants and turns down eligible students due to space and class size limitations.
UTC raises nearly $2.9 million from 2,201 donors on Mocs Give Day
UTC raised $2,899,459.06 from 2,201 donors during its fifth annual Mocs Give Day on Oct. 1. The day’s original fundraising goal of $2,000,000 from 2,000 donors was exceeded by nearly 45% in dollars raised.

In its fifth year, Mocs Give Day, a one-day digital forward fundraising campaign for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The goal is to raise $2 million from 2,000 donors.
UTC Vice Chancellor for Advancement Kim White to transition into new role in 2025
UTC Vice Chancellor for Advancement and Executive Director of the UC Foundation Kim White will transition into a new role of executive advisor to the UC Foundation, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
State of the University 2024: UTC celebrates record enrollment, bold future plans
Standing before a packed house in the newly opened Wolford Family Athletic Center, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Steven R. Angle delivered his annual State of the University address on Monday, Sept. 16, celebrating UTC’s achievements and charting an ambitious course for the future as part of Founder’s Week—a celebration of the institution’s 138th anniversary.
UTC has historic fundraising year of $60 million raised
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga raised $60,056,026 from 6,762 donors during the fiscal year 2024. This is the single largest fundraising year in UTC’s history. This fundraising total represents a 325% increase from the previous fiscal year in dollars raised to support students, faculty and staff.
UTC School of Nursing simulation program receives endorsement from global organization
The UTC School of Nursing simulation program has received the designation of “endorsed” for the cornerstone standards of prebriefing, debriefing, facilitation and professional integrity from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), a professional organization dedicated to advancing the science of health care simulation.
