Grand challenges: UTC alum working to keep ‘the monsters’ in check
For many children, the monsters under their beds are real, and Dylan Rivera, a 2020 graduate of UTC, is working to help keep those monsters in check. As director of policy planning and implementation for the city of Chattanooga, his work directly influences Chattanooga’s minority neighborhoods by helping people “move up from where they are in their socioeconomic status” and making impactful changes for their families.
Sean O’Brien named UTC associate vice chancellor for public safety and police chief
Sean O’Brien, a decorated police officer with 24 years of law enforcement experience, has been selected as the new University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Safety and UTC Police Chief. O’Brien, who has worked for the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) since 2007, will join UTC effective May 1, 2024.

The UTC Innovations in Honors program and the Chattanooga Department of Innovation Delivery and Performance have agreed to collaborate on developing solutions to citywide challenges involving public housing and health during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Goldberg appointed Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Steven R. Angle has appointed Brent Goldberg as the University’s next vice chancellor for finance and administration. Goldberg is an experienced chief financial officer with two degrees from UTC. He currently serves as the CFO for the City of Chattanooga and will assume his new duties at UTC on Dec. 1, 2022.
