A group of 21 undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga met on Friday, Sept. 26, for a welcome meeting to discuss their award-winning research projects. Recipients of the Scholarship, Engagement, the Arts, Research, Creativities and Humanities (SEARCH) Awards—which are given to students across all disciplines to begin research under UTC faculty supervision—discussed where they are in the research process.

This year, 194 UTC employees were honored during the UTC Service Awards Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 16, a signature event of Founder’s Week. Service awards are presented in five-year increments, beginning with an employee’s fifth year of regular service, and highlight the value of employee contributions while reinforcing UTC’s culture of appreciation and retention.

From driving simulators to award-winning research, psychology graduate Shyla Khan’s road to internship and opportunity
For the last year, Shyla Khan—who earned a Master of Science in Psychological Science degree from UTC in spring 2025—has been working at the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, conducting research utilizing a driving simulator.

Now celebrating its second year in operation, the Hatch It! Lab is far more than just a place to make 3D-printed defense weapons. Students in 41 courses such as botany, literature, psychology, Afrofuturism, education and criminal justice have used the lab.
