Dr. Artanya Wesley has been appointed the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s next vice chancellor of enrollment management and student affairs. Wesley, who will assume her new duties on Feb. 5, comes to UTC from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she has served as vice chancellor for student affairs since 2019.

Senior Caroline Colvin, pursuing bachelor’s degrees in communication and Spanish, placed seventh in the highly competitive Hearst Journalism Awards Feature Writing Competition for her Rising Rock feature titled “The Road to the Medal.” Colvin, head editor of Rising Rock and editor-in-chief of the University Echo, is UTC’s first-ever winner in the Hearst Foundation writing competition.
Middle and high school students unveil their business ideas at Inventanooga
Inventanooga 2023 brought 21 teams and more than 70 students from schools in Hamilton, Bradley and Oconee counties to UTC. Both middle and high school students participated, pitching business ideas they formulated, researched and, in some cases, produced prototypes.
UTC graduates first cybersecurity cohort
The initial cohort of students in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology in Cybersecurity (BAS-IT CyS) degree program crossed the McKenzie Arena stage during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 16. The accelerated degree program’s first cohort participated in its first class on Jan. 9.

At University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Graduate School commencement exercises on Friday, Dec. 15, at McKenzie Arena, 72-year-old Tony Galloway took part in a doctoral hooding ceremony—the recipient of a doctorate in Education: Learning and Leadership (Ed.D.).
Change of leadership in Office of Research and Graduate School
Dr. Joanne Romagni, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Vice Chancellor for Research and dean of the Graduate School, has decided to leave that position and return to the faculty as a professor in the Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science. This change will be effective Jan. 1, 2024, and Deputy Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mann will serve as UTC Vice Chancellor for Research for a period of two years starting Jan. 1.
‘There is no barrier and no limit if you have that passion to learn’
Fatimah Musa, who will receive a bachelor’s degree in mechatronics during University of Tennessee at Chattanooga undergraduate commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 16, was born with cone-rod dystrophy—a type of inherited retinal degeneration affecting the retina’s photoreceptor cells. The condition is characterized by progressive loss of function and death of the eyes’ cone and rod photoreceptor cells, leading to vision loss.
