Sunday, October 7: “Songs and Dances” faculty recital
The UTC Music Department presents the faculty recital “Songs and Dances,” which will feature Doctors Jonathan McNair, Mario Abril, and Kenyon Wilson on Sunday, October 7, at 4 p.m. in the UTC Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall, 752 Vine Street. This event is free and open to the public.
University to host industrial-organizational psychology conference
Now in its eighth year, the River Cities Industrial Organizational Conference (RCIO), hosted by the UTC Department of Psychology, will center on the theme of “Selecting for High Performance.” With a focus on identifying, developing, and selecting high performing employees, the conference will take place October 26 and 27 at the University Center.
New faculty, tenure, promotions announced for 2012-13
Dr. Pamela Ashmore is the new head of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography. She joins us from the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where she was an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology and Languages.
Dr. Jeffery Elwell named Dean of College of Arts and Sciences
A former journalist turned playwright turned professor is now the Dean of the UTC College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Jeffery Elwell joins the College from Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) where he served as Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives.
New exhibition at Cress Gallery of Art
Selections II: The UTC Permanent Collection of Art will be on exhibit through Friday, July 27, at the Cress Gallery of Art. Gallery summer hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Cress is closed on weekends.
Alumnus wins Obie award, off-Broadway’s highest honor
Ben Williams, a UTC alumnus, won a 2012 Obie award for Sound Design in the play, “The Select (The Sun Also Rises).” The Obie Awards are annual awards given to theatre artists and groups in New York City. They are said to be “Off-Broadway’s highest honor.”
University hosts Civil War historians
From the Chickamauga Battlefields to Signal Point to the National Cemetery, Chattanooga’s rich history made it the perfect place for Civil War historians to gather to discuss research and see the historical sites firsthand.
Potts nominated for Supernova Award
