With a passion for public service and a desire to make a positive impact on society, Rachel Gentry chose the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The extent and importance of Katherine Goforth Elverd’s accomplishments on and off the UTC campus is being noticed. Chattanooga’s Chatter magazine selected Elverd, professor and director of the music therapy degree program at UTC, to its 2023 ‘20 Under 40’ list.
UTC chemistry grad’s research wins national recognition
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduate Dr. Caitlin Randolph is the winner of one of academia’s most prestigious and highly competitive fellowships for researchers within chemical sciences and instrumentation, and she attributes the win to UTC.
‘It is possible to move forward in life’: Katie Streber overcame drugs, jail and uncertainty to earn a bachelor’s degree and pursue a master’s
In May 2023, Katie Streber graduated summa cum laude from UTC with a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies, focusing on social work and criminal justice. She has been accepted into the UTC graduate school and plans to pursue a master’s degree in public administration.
Faculty members receive Harris Chair grants to continue research
Five University of Tennessee at Chattanooga professors have been selected to receive Commercialization Acceleration grants from the Clarence E. Harris Chair of Excellence in Entrepreneurship. The money helps the faculty members further their research.
Shell seekers: Environmental science course conducts turtle research
On a recent June afternoon as part of an Environmental Science Survey Methods course, several turtles were pulled from nets placed in the river by Dr. Thomas Wilson, UC Foundation professor in the UTC Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science. Once there, Wilson held the reptiles in his hands and talked about them before returning them to the river.

Chemistry and art? Makes scents for honeysuckle research
Andrew O’Brien, an associate professor in the UTC Department of Art, was awarded a $10,000 grant to incorporate something new into his art—the scent of honeysuckle. “It has allowed me to be a little more ambitious and try something that is certainly more experimental.”
