The Postmortal by Drew Magary has been chosen by the First Year Reading Experience (FYRE) committee as the FYRE book for 2014-2015. FYRE introduces students to the academic and intellectual culture of university life. It nurtures the belief that reading is an integral part of the university experience.
Top seniors honored by Student Government Association
UTC Student Government Association recently honored 113 students at the 2014 Outstanding Senior Awards Ceremony. This annual event recognizes seniors who have made significant contributions and accomplished outstanding achievements within their degree programs. In addition to being honored, students were also asked to invite a favorite professor to attend the ceremony.
Students participate in research at UTC
As Jessica Murray assisted Dr. Gretchen Potts with ongoing research on electronic or e-cigarettes, the undergraduate student said she learned a lot about problem solving and troubleshooting. She recently presented her Departmental Honors Thesis in chemistry.
UTC PT Department visits Tennessee State Capitol; presents at Las Vegas conference
UTC students, faculty, and Chattanooga clinicians recently visited the Tennessee State Capitol for Physical Therapy Day on the Hill, where they met with state legislators and sat in on a session of the House Health Committee. The event was hosted by the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association (TPTA).
University to host sports injury prevention conference
As youth sports related injuries continue to rise and receive national attention, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will explore and highlight issues related to prevention and management of injuries by hosting a two-day conference.

CHEPS publishes journal
With support from the Maclellan Foundation, the UTC College of Health, Education, and Professional Studies (CHEPS) has recently begun publishing the Journal of Adolescent and Family Health (JA&FH).
UTC Nursing students are raising money for a trip to Guatemala
In many parts of the world people don’t have the same readily available access to healthcare that most people in the United States have. UTC School of Nursing (SON) students are raising the money to take a trip to one such place, Guatemala City, to try to change that.
Dr. Christine Benz Smith named Director of UTC School of Nursing
Following a nationwide search, UTC alumna Dr. Christine Benz Smith has been selected as the Director of the UTC School of Nursing. She has served in several capacities at UTC since she joined the UTC School of Nursing (SON) faculty in 1997.
HHP offers new Master’s Degree, Physical Activity and Health
In fall 2014, the Health and Human Performance Department will officially begin to offer a new Master’s Degree, Physical Activity in Health. This new degree focuses on public health and health promotion. The focus will be on promoting health within community based organizations, which might mean neighborhoods, work sites, corporations, small businesses, or school settings.
