Research Experience for Teachers mixes collegiate research with K-12 teaching

Junior achievement: Inaugural University High cohort arrives at UTC
Aug. 9 was the first day of class on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus. For 56 high school juniors, that is. University High, a Hamilton County Schools initiative headquartered at UTC, made its long-awaited debut. The program was designed as a college pipeline for high school students who might not have seen themselves heading toward a four-year university education.
Federal grant to assist UTC nurse practitioner students in breaking down barriers to care

Mi campus es su campus: UTC to host first Spanish speaking tour
For the first time in its history, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will offer Spanish-language campus tours starting this month. The inaugural guided tour, led by UTC students, will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25. Buses will pick up prospective high school students and their families at 4 p.m. from La Paz Chattanooga—located at 809 S. Willow St.—and a trio of local high schools: The Howard School, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and East Ridge High School.
UTC raises more than $14 million during 2023 fiscal year from 6,100 donors
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga raised $14,113,826 from 6,100 donors during the fiscal year 2023, exceeding the University’s fundraising goal by more than $3 million. This fundraising total represents a 38% increase from the previous fiscal year and a 115% increase from two years prior in dollars raised to support students, faculty and staff.

Chemical company has UTC molecules all over it
Even though the Colonial Chemical name is not on the label, there’s a good chance the molecules are from the South Pittsburg, Tennessee-based company, which is home to 16 current University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduates—nine of them with undergraduate degrees in chemistry or chemical engineering.
Plum assignment: Grad student documents a successful method to grow a fruit tree
While pursuing a master’s degree in environmental science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, May 2023 graduate Hannah Nelms discovered a method of propagating wild American plum trees by taking cuttings—small stems from a tree’s trunk—and getting them to root in greenhouses.
