UTC Vice Chancellor for Access and Engagement Stacy Lightfoot was among the prominent leaders in the arts, business, education, entertainment, government, corporate America and community honored at the Eighth Annual Diamond Awards, held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Morehouse College Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel in Atlanta. Lightfoot was recognized in the category of Education: Excellence in Leadership, Philanthropy, Humanitarian and Community Engagement.

Chris Dortch, an adjunct faculty member in the UTC Department of Communication since 2018, will inducted into the United States Basketball Writers Association’s Hall of Fame in April.

Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga family—UC Foundation Associate Professor Liz Hathaway and Theresa Blackman, assistant director of pre-health student services and an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences—have been selected to the 2023-2024 All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.

Often referred to as “the fun week” by college students, the first week of school is usually the time to catch up with friends after winter break while easing into classes. UTC likes to aid in the fun atmosphere with a week’s worth of events to give students a warm winter welcome beginning Monday, Jan. 8.

UTC graduating senior Mackenzie Smith aims to become the seventh physician in her immediate family, but medical school will have to wait until after her soccer career ends. Smith has her eye on playing professional soccer overseas. Then, the two-time all-Southern Conference player and biochemistry major plans to join her five siblings and father and attend medical school.

Being a well-balanced student is not an easy feat, and as a student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA, Emmy Davis knows this all too well. Her hard work as an undergraduate student is coming to an end on Saturday, Dec. 16, when the cross country and track and field runner graduates summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in finance.

Fall commencement at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will be celebrated with three separate ceremonies taking place over two days starting Friday, Dec. 15.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga raised $1,734,947.42 from 2,131 donors during its fourth annual Mocs Give Day on Oct. 3. The day’s original fundraising goals to raise $1,000,000 from 1,500 donors were exceeded by nearly 73% and 42%, respectively.

The Sales Institute in the Gary W. Rollins College of Business was officially announced in November 2022, and its first students enrolled in January 2023. Along with classroom courses, the Institute offers six “Business Skills Labs” where students can conduct mock interviews and practice sales calls on potential “buyers.”
