Take Five Series to focus on Appalachian Literature
UTC’s popular Take Five literary series returns in 2014 with a focus on Appalachian Literature. This year’s series will take place Tuesday nights from January through April.

Trumpet festival comes to UTC
The Department of Music will host the 2014 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast at the UTC Fine Arts Center, January 17-19. Admission to performances by guest artists and a jam session is free and open to the public.
UTC Challenger STEM Learning Center featured in space travel discussion
In support of the world’s first commercial space flight in 2014, the UTC Challenger STEM Learning Center participated in a live Google Hangout streamed live around the world. The event was sponsored by the National Challenger Center Network, Virgin Galactic, and Galactic Unite.
UTC launches series of learning lunches
It’s a common misconception that dyslexia is just reading words incorrectly, but according to Dr. James Herman of MTSU, the learning disability has deeper neurological roots. Herman was on campus to speak at a new series focused on community education, sponsored by the UTC McKee Chair of Excellence.

Industrial-organizational psychology conference engages students
The journey into space is as much psychological as it is physical. Astronauts’ environment is a small spaceship where they work, sleep, and eat with the same coworkers every day in a dangerous, high-stress space for long periods of time. As an I-O psychologist for NASA, it’s Dr. Kelley Slack’s job to prepare the newest class of astronauts for space travel.
