Dr. Hugh Prevost and Dr. Verbie Prevost were recently honored as the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus and Alumna for the Department of English at Mississippi College. The two met at Mississippi College and were married in historic Provine Chapel on the Mississippi College campus in 1974.
Huesman, Tull earn postseason football honors
UTC head football coach Russ Huesman and junior defensive end Davis Tull each received extensive post season honors for their roles in leading the Mocs to a historic 8-4 SoCon championship season.
Graduates hike the Appalachian Trail
UTC graduates Eli Fowler and Brandon Taylor recently hiked the grueling 2,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail. For six months, these alumni trekked across thirteen states, from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. Scholarship recipients grateful for EWI contribution
Tina Clevenger wants to pursue a law degree so that she can help people who live in poverty. She feels there is work to be done to fix the flawed legal system so that laws are structured to better assist those living below the poverty line.
BlueCross establishes Vicky B. Gregg Chair at UTC
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announces the establishment of the Vicky B. Gregg Chair of Gerontology in its School of Nursing. The Chair is funded by a $1.5 million gift from the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Health Foundation and honors the distinguished career of the organization’s retired chief executive officer.
Alumna named national leader
Dr. Diane Grob Schmidt ’67 has been elected to lead the American Chemical Society (ACS). Schmidt, a chemistry graduate, was named the 1995 UTC Distinguished Alumni Award winner.
Dr. Ann Holmes receives state honor
When Dr. Ann Holmes was a freshman at UTC, she was struggling to find a class when she decided to try geology at 8 a.m. with the legendary late professor Dr. “Rock” Wilson. “I was mesmerized from day one. This school fostered my interest in rocks,” Holmes said.
Mocs pile up SoCon postseason honors
The Southern Conference Champion Chattanooga Mocs football team tied a school record with nine individuals earning All-SoCon recognition.
Alumna breaks Canadian marathon record
Lanni Marchant has put in a lot of miles since she graduated from UTC in 2007. The former student-athlete is now one of Canada’s top distance runners, recently breaking the Canadian women’s marathon record.
Mocs rock Mock Trial
Students involved in Mock Trial at UTC get to try their hand at a real court case without the threat of legal repercussions. Mock Trial is a trial simulation that provides great skills for a wide variety of students, not just Political Science majors and future lawyers. Teams of six to ten students play the parts of lawyers and witnesses before a real judge.
